Ellanore Rughani has been awarded the 2025–2026 David Stephen Cant Graduate Scholarship in Stem Cell Research in the Department of Molecular Genetics at the University of Toronto.

This competitive scholarship is awarded annually to a graduate student who demonstrates academic excellence and sustained commitment to stem cell research. The award was established in 2010 by Peter and Sally Cant in memory of their son, David Stephen Cant, and was first awarded in the 2011–2012 academic year.

The scholarship supports students in both the MSc and PhD programs whose research focuses on stem cell-related questions, with preference given to work connected to neurological disorders, including autism, macular degeneration, or stem cell-based approaches to vision recovery.

“This award reflects the quality of Ellanore Rughani’s research and her contribution to the field of stem cell research,” said Dr. Julie Claycomb, Acting Chair, Department of Molecular Genetics.

Ellanore’s research reflects strong engagement in this area, and the award recognizes both the quality of her work and its potential contribution to the field.

Congratulations to Ellanore on this well deserved recognition.
