BMS Teaching Seminar: AI in the Classroom - Insights from the U of T Task Force on Teaching and Learning

As GenAI has taken the world by storm, faculty and students are grappling with how these tools will affect courses and their future careers.  This session will share some highlights from the AI Task Force report with a focus on what it means for teaching and learning.  Together, we will explore how instructors can engage with AI in large classroom settings, support student AI literacy, and consider how AI might affect learning outcome from a disciplinary perspective.

About Dr. Karen Reid

Karen Reid is a Professor, Teaching Stream in Computer Science at the University of Toronto. Professor Reid has served in several administrative roles most recently as Acting Principal Woodsworth College (2025).  Her teaching focuses on systems programming and interdisciplinary data science.  Professor Reid has also been worked on programs, primarily with CTSI, that support faculty and graduate students in developing their pedagogy and best practices in higher educations.  Her work with students has been recognized by multiple teaching awards, including the President's Teaching Award, the OCUFA (Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Association) Teaching Award, and the Joan E. Foley award for Student Experience.
