This interactive workshop introduces the foundational concepts and processes of curriculum mapping for faculty in health science disciplines. Participants will explore the strengths and limitations of curriculum mapping, work through the mapping process from preparation through data collection and analysis, and discuss common challenges and strategies to address them. Examples from health science departments will be shared to illustrate different approaches and visualizations. By the end of the session, attendees will have a foundational understanding of how to manage a curriculum mapping project to enhance program coherence and continuous improvement.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Describe the key purposes, benefits, and limitations of curriculum mapping.
- Outline the basic steps involved in the curriculum mapping process, including planning, data collection, and analysis.
- Identify common challenges and strategies for success in implementing curriculum mapping within health sciences departments.
About Jessie Richards
Jessie Richards has worked in the field of educational development for over ten years in various positions across the higher education sector. In her current role as Curriculum Development Specialist in the Office of the Vice-Provost, Innovations in Undergraduate Education, Jessie supports departmental leaders across U of Tâs three campuses in the coordination and management of curriculum review processes. Her work includes developing and implementing program evaluation strategies; guiding departments through curriculum mapping; and coordinating strategies for the continuous improvement of academic programs. Jessie holds a Master of Arts from the University of Windsor and is currently a PhD candidate at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education.
