Talk Abstract:
Mitochondria have emerged as key integration and signalling hubs playing a crucial role in the maintenance of stemness traits, commitment, and differentiation, thereby opening new opportunities to therapeutically orient stem cell fate decisions through modulation of their mitochondrial properties. Our lab is currently exploring the role of mitophagy as a mitochondrial quality control regulator in Muscle Stem Cells (MuSCs), and the role this process plays in maintaining optimal muscle regenerative capacity. I will present recent work on the kinetics of mitophagy under different physiological myogenic states and the role of the PINK1/Parkin pathway in the regulation of MuSC mitochondrial properties and fate decisions.
