Dr. Artem Babaian, Assistant Professor in the Department of Molecular Genetics at the University of Toronto, has been named a 2025-2027 CIFAR Azrieli Global Scholar, one of just 12 early-career researchers selected through a highly competitive global process.
His research focuses on developing new computational tools to analyse biological big datasets, exploring areas such as the genomics of RNA viruses and identifying fungal genes with cancer therapeutic potential. As a member of CIFAR’s Fungal Kingdom: Threats & Opportunities Program, Dr. Babaian joins a global network of leading scientists pursuing collaborative, interdisciplinary approaches to critical biological questions.
Congratulations to Dr. Babaian on this well-deserved recognition of his innovative work and leadership in computational biology. We are proud to see MoGen faculty recognized among CIFAR’s rising stars, and we look forward to the continued impact of Dr. Babaian’s work!
