Exploring Student Projects in Medical Genomics

Medical Genomics
MedGen Program Projects
By Liliana Trajceska

This year, we have launched a new series called Program Projects, which aims to showcase the work done by students in the Medical Genomics program. The assignments throughout the program range from the use of bioinformatics pipelines to science communication, providing students with a variety of opportunities to develop a vast assortment of qualifications and prepare students for the professional field of genomics.

This series highlights specific student project examples and demonstrates the variety of skills gained through completing these major assignments. Throughout the series, we will hear current students talk about their personal experiences with completing these projects and gain an understanding of the lessons they have learned on this journey. The Program Projects series also allows individuals within the genomics community and prospective students to explore innovative and exciting topics which are investigated in the Medical Genomics program.

The Program Projects series can be found on the University of Toronto Medical Genomics Instagram page. In addition to the examples highlighted in our new series, many more student projects can be found on The MedGen Project -  a grad student-run blog which discusses major issues and trending topics in the field of medical genomics. We hope to connect current and prospective students through this series by highlighting the learning goals and opportunities presented by the Medical Genomics program.
