Paul McKay is currently a first-year Medical Genomics master’s student at the University of Toronto, and a volunteer genome analyst at the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute through Sinai health. He aspires to advance the implementation of medicine that is personalized to individual genetic makeup. Paul utilizes interdisciplinary skills in genomic data analysis, science communication, and medical case review to identify new opportunities and challenges in the field of Medical Genomics. He received a B.Sc. in Biochemistry from McGill University in 2021.
His community involvement includes serving as a McGill Biochemistry Undergraduate Society council member for four consecutive years (2018-2021), volunteering in the Montreal Children’s Hospital paediatric intensive care unit (2019, 2020), and being a McGill Science first-year orientation week leader (2019). Paul’s time at Montreal Children’s hospital inspired him to pursue a Master of Health Science. Paul attributes his current success to the challenges he faced as the elected president of the Biochemistry Undergraduate Society throughout the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. Navigating this uncertain time required adaptability, clear and constant team communications, and clever implementation of technology.
Paul is eager to fulfill his role as a Communications Content Creator for the MHSc Medical Genomics program at UofT. He will create and manage long-form written content to be shared across platforms such as LinkedIn and The Temerty Faculty of Medicine Medical Genomics official webpage. Paul will additionally launch the UofT Medical Genomics TikTok, where he is excited to inspire new interest in the field of Medical Genomics through the creation of short-form video content.
Welcome to the team, Paul!
