Brooke is going into her second year in the Medical Genomics MHSc program at the University of Toronto. Completing her BSc in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Northern BC in 2021, Brooke took a keen interest in genetic mechanisms of disease – bringing her here to MedGen! She also completed a Political Science minor, targeting this part of her education on medical and health policy in Canada. Throughout the MedGen program, Brooke has developed a deep passion for science communication, specifically translating complex and innovative science for diverse groups of audiences. In this field, she hopes to help make contemporary genomics research accessible to the public, healthcare providers, policymakers, and more.

Throughout her undergrad, Brooke has taken on various roles in her school and community, particularly in her school’s Biochemistry Club, Drama/Musical Theatre Clubs, and Rotaract Club. It was through these experiences, she gained valuable experience in content creation, promotion, and graphic design. Brooke is grateful to have had such beneficial experiences from her hobbies that she can now translate into her current role, and into her professional career.

As part of the MedGen Communications team, Brooke is excited to share the talents, stories, and research of her colleagues in the Medical Genomics community through long-form written feature pieces. Brooke will also be assisting in social media content creation for both our professional audiences on Twitter and LinkedIn, and our growing audience on Tik Tok. Through these platforms, Brooke hopes that her content will not only promote the program, but also help to educate and inspire the public. Aside from her academic and professional interests, Brooke is a devoted cat mom, reality TV enthusiast, and amateur baker.
