Pioneers, settlers and life on the OregonR trail: transcriptional regulation during development
Staphylococcus aureus is a leading global cause of deaths attributable to antimicrobial resistance, underscoring the urgent need for new therapeutic strategies. Host adhesion is crucial for S. aureus colonization and infection, presenting a promising target for intervention. Our research explores the molecular mechanisms driving S. aureus host adhesion, with the overarching goal of identifying inhibitors targeting this process. I will discuss the development of high-throughput methods designed to study S. aureus adhesion, facilitating large-scale genetic and chemical screens. Furthermore, mechanistic insights into key processes governing adhesion will be described, along with the discovery of two novel classes of anti-adhesive agents with therapeutic potential.
