We are interested in uncovering the molecular and cellular events that govern embryonic heart development and adult heart regeneration and applying these discoveries to methods to repair the damaged human heart. To achieve these goals, we employ both developmental biology- and genomics-based approaches to find the key genes and enhancers that regulate heart development, and then study their function in vivo using the zebrafish model system. A specific interest is in deciphering conserved (to human) gene regulatory networks that are affected in human congenital heart disease.
