Celebrating Outstanding Achievement: Fifteen individuals from the University of Toronto, including a Department of Molecular Genetics community member, have received the prestigious Order of Canada recognition. Alan Bernstein, a professor emeritus in Temerty Medicine’s department of molecular genetics, has been promoted to Companion of the Order for his exceptional leadership in Canadian health research and science policy.
His remarkable contributions include revitalizing Canadian health research, advocating for interdisciplinary research, and championing women and young scientists during his tenure as the inaugural president of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and the president and CEO of CIFAR (the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research). Bernstein's unwavering support for the next generation of researchers makes this recognition well-deserved.
